The Flying Corkscrew is an award winning wine company known for its focus on properly made wines that are authenic, typical of their area of origin and good value. All the wines we offer have been tasted by us and chosen to achieve the best quality we can find for the price. A lot of our wines are made by smaller producers, some are organic, some use traditional winemaking methods but the real criteria are quality and value for money. If it is good - it gets in and we only sell wine that we would drink ourselves.
We have a page of Recommended Wines that we feel best exemplify the quality of the wines we sell and if you have not bought from us before we suggest you try some of these. We have given the recommended wines our Flying Corkscrew Seal of Approval. Some are made from grapes that are perhaps less familiar - but life is too short to drink the same wine - so try them.
We also have a Discovery Wine Club - we are very flexible and deliver cases of wine every month or every two months or every quarter and at different budget levels. The idea is to give our customers a case of interesting wines every time. Some of the wines are on our list but others are wines we have found exciting but only available in small parcels. If you particularly like any of the wines in the Discovery Case then you can buy a case of it at a special discounted (trade) price. We never put any "filler" wines in any of our Cases and every single bottle offers an enjoyable experience. Details are on the Wine Club page.
We were established in 1995 as Great Gaddesden Wines and sell wine to a wide range of restaurants, "gastro" pubs and hotels. We opened the Flying Corkscrew shop in 2002 and in the International Wine Challenge awards we were voted Independent Wine Merchant of the Year 2003,and Regional Wine Merchant of the Year, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008. In 2010 we moved to this online shop to offer our wines on a wider basis.
Our emphasis is on value - quality at the price - "Bad Wine is always too expensive" (Henri Jayer).
